The Next New Thing
I think a cool new type of new media would be a website that connects all brick and mortar stores with each other and the consumer. The site will show the destination of the stores in comparison to each other, the goods they have in stock, and the price they charge. This will allow for competitive pricing between the stores and will give the consumer the ability to limit time searching for the right product at the right price. Of course, you can connect it with facebook and twitter, allowing businesses and consumers to share their newest goods or best deals and for consumers to share what theyve just purchased.

Our Class Wiki- So Far
I am doing the page, "New Media in Entertainment." The page already had many examples of new media in entertainment, so I've been editing any errors and plan on updating any outdated info. As well, I added a section that has to do with forms of new media that allow piracy.

P2P File Sharing
File sharing is when one person uploads a file that anyone can then download and use. P2P file sharing, as stated in the article by Chis Nuttal, "It has made possible the downloading of large files of copyrighted material such as movies and music for millions of users. Its popularity is such that it is estimated to be responsible for between 40 and 50 per cent of all internet traffic." An example of P2P file sharing is BitTorrent, uTorrent, Transmission; all of which allow users to download and upload large files.

Privacy
privacy and new media go hand in hand. New media like FaceBook and Twitter are two examples of new media where one has and does not have privacy. The reason both have and do not have privacy is because on the one hand, a user can set their own privacy standards. However, their information, pictures, etc. is being seen and monitored by the people who created the sites. There have been and still are incidents when these companies sell the users information to others for a profit.
Blog Advice
With rate of advancement in technology it is difficult for an institution, especially a city institution, to keep up. New media however, is a free and easy way to keep Baruch in the game. Before implementing any forms of new media you must test it out first. I would use a pool of the schools students to test the new media and give feedback on its effectiveness and efficiency. I would also ask professor to do the same. All in all getting a consensus on whether the new media with improve the daily activities of the students, the professors, and the school in general. I would like to see adviser's using Skype. I understand there a over 10 thousand students at Baruch and long lines are expected. But aside from the school needing more advisers, Baruch can set up a group of Skype advisers or even students who are familiar with classes in specific majors. They can have individual time with students via Skype or even set times where an adviser will be giving advice for students, lets say, in the Accounting major, allowing for multiple students to part-take.

About My Research Paper
It was pretty easy to find articles on my topic. I used Academic Search Complete, Google, and Google scholar to get the information I needed. I had a basic idea of my topic before doing research. After doing research and finding articles I learned some interesting things. I rarely, if ever, buy music from iTunes so when I read about the new pricing schemes I was kind of shocked. I knew CD sales had decreased but i didnt know it was that dramatic. I chose my topic because music is one of my passions (even though i cant play any instrument). I own a small collection of vinyls and a bigger collection of CD's and so i was curious about how the industry has changed. I concluded that there will be a day when digital music takes over, but that will not be for a while. People still enjoy having something tangible. The digitization of music is played through iTunes, Pandora, Rhapsody and others, all being versions of new media.

Creativity and New Media
I created a video and posted it on YouTube. As you can see the shows many pictures of me in a video format. I created this using iMovie. First, I uploaded all the photos i wanted to use onto iMovie. Then i edited the arrangement of the photos. Next I added music to the video by dragging a song from my iTunes library into iMovie. Finally, I aligned to the best of my ability the music with the pictures changing. I was not able to upload the video directly to YouTube from iMovie. In order to upload it I had to extract the video to iTunes. This allowed me to upload the video. To be honest I had no idea how to do any of these things until now. It's amazing how you can easily make something with these new forms of media.
